Deodorant or Anti-Perspirant?

Anti-perspirants contain active ingredients - usually aluminum salts, which form temporary gel plugs in the upper part of pores which reduce the amount of sweat that is released. If you sweat more and want to reduce your natural sweat production, you should use an anti-perspirant.

Deodorants help to keep underarms smelling fresh rather than stop sweat. They contain ingredients which prevent bacterial growth to help fight body odour caused by sweating. People who sweat little or do not want to influence their sweating behaviour are advised to use deodorant.

Do deodorants leave marks and stains on our clothing?

Yes. The white residues in the underarm left by deodorants are mainly caused by the anti-perspirant active ingredients – the aluminium salts. Yellow stains are caused by the anti-perspirant active ingredients plus the skin’s natural oils and sweat in the clothing, which then interact with water and detergent. This chemical reaction produces yellow-coloured deposits that remain stuck in the fibres of your clothes.
